MOstly technical update
Nov. 24th, 2021 17:07My current ASUS Windows notebook computer started flaking out with an inability to access the hard drive. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the hard drive media, as test utilities that polled the drive reported no failure imminent, so I suspect either a loose connection or a motherboard fault. I'll probably pry it open later after pulling off some minor data to see if I can reseat a cable.
In the meantime, I opted to buy a Chromebook on sale. Avoided Amazon, of course. Mostly happy with the SSH client Chrome extension, though two older Linux games have trouble with the terminal emulation. My attempt to approximate block graphics via Unicode works, so there's that. The Linux sandbox also seems to work fine. In theory the Chromebook would be ideal for NaNoWriMo in-person social events, had I the time and pandemic-willing.
